The Owen Sound Police Service has finished their investigation into the fire at the Grey Bruce Health Services – Owen Sound site from the weekend.
Inspector Stephen MacKinnon stated, “Our Criminal Investigation Branch has completed their investigation and no charges will be laid in relation to the fire that started in a patient’s room on floor 4-1 on the weekend.”
The 78-year-old patient, who was unable to comprehend the consequences of her actions, had obtained a lighter and ignited the bedding. She was alone in her room at the time.
“Thankfully the quick and professional actions of the hospital staff helped prevent what could have otherwise been a very tragic outcome,” said MacKinnon.
Police involvement in the fire has concluded.
