Busy Few Days

Several unlocked vehicles and a shed on the city’s west side were entered sometime Friday evening resulting in their owners calling police Saturday morning to report items stolen which included CD’s, cash, a camera, a wallet, cell phone and a pair of binoculars, as well as some beer and homemade wine. Four bicycles were also stolen in the same area.

On the weekend Owen Sound Police Service Officers arrested a 15-year-old Owen Sound male riding one of the stolen bikes. He faces charges of Theft Under $5,000; Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000; Mischief Under $5,000; Break and Enter; and Prowl By Night. He was released with certain conditions including a curfew, and will go to Court in the middle of September to answer to the charges.

Further investigation into the thefts have also led to the arrest of an 18-year-old Owen Sound male who also faces the same charges as the younger male but has an additional charge of Fail to Comply with Sentence under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. This male was also released from custody and will appear in Court at the end of August.

A 21-year-old Owen Sound male has been charged with two counts of Assault, two counts of Breach of Probation, and one count of Choking. The verbal altercation that started in his girlfriend’s apartment eventually spilled out onto the street Friday afternoon where it was witnessed and the police were called to the area. The male was remanded into custody and will appear in Court on the 22nd of July.

A 28-year-old Owen Sound male was arrested Friday afternoon after a verbal argument on Thursday morning escalated to the point where he threw a household item at his common-law spouse. The item struck the female but she did not require medical treatment. Later that afternoon the male continued with the assaultive behaviour by pulling her hair and threatening to kill her. The assaults were not reported to police until Friday afternoon.

The male faces numerous charges including Assault with a Weapon, Assault, and Uttering Death Threats. Police seized two non-restricted unregistered firearms (rifle and shotgun) from the home that were not stored in a safe manner. The male faces the additional charges of two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm; two counts of Possession of a Non-restricted Unregistered Forearms; and one count each of Careless Storage of a Firearm and Careless Storage of Ammunition. He appeared in Court on the 20th of July where he was released on bail with certain conditions and is to re-appear on the 20th of August.

What started as a visit by a 26-year-old Owen Sound male to the residence of a female friend in Owen Sound has led to the arrest of the female’s 42-year-old common-law partner. The younger male and the female had been drinking and an argument broke out between the common-law couple. When the female tried to leave the residence with the young male, the older male blocked their way, and pushed to female to the floor. The young male tried to intervene and a struggle ensued between the two males.

Owen Sound Police responded to the residence and further investigation led to the arrest of the older male on a charge of Forcible Confinement, as well as Assault. He was held in custody and released by the Courts on bail with conditions and is to re-appear in Court on the 20th of August.

A 28-year-old Owen Sound male was arrested on the weekend after he forced his way into a downtown apartment and threatened an occupant with a twelve-inch kitchen knife and hammer that he found inside. The victim managed to talk the accused outside onto the street where the actions were witnessed by a passer-by who called 9-1-1.

Uniformed officers located the male and the stolen knife and hammer a block away from the apartment. David Carefoot is charged with Uttering Threats; Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose; Assault with a Weapon; Unlawfully in a Dwelling; Theft Under $5,000; and Failing to Comply with an Undertaking. He was held in custody and will re-appear in Court on the 23rd of July.

A young man retuned home shortly after midnight on Sunday morning to find his mother being assaulted by a live-in companion. The victim was heard by a passing motorist yelling for help and for someone to call the police.

Uniformed Owen Sound Police Officers arrived to find the front door to the residence secured but a female screaming for help from inside so they forced their way in and found the two males fighting on the floor. Once separated the 50-year-old Owen Sound male was arrested and charged with Assault; and Choking. He was remanded into custody and will re-appear in Court on the 22nd of July.

Alcohol was a factor.

A 20-year-old Owen Sound male, attempting to do the right thing by stopping his friend from driving after consuming alcohol, has found himself going to court.

Uniformed officers responded to the call of two males fighting on the lawn of an eastside residence just around 4:20 a.m. on Monday morning. When officers arrived the male friend had fled the scene but Darcy Olinskie was lying on the sidewalk in an intoxicated state which was a breach of a no alcohol condition of an Undertaking for previous charges. He was held in custody but has since been released on bail with conditions and is to re-appear in Court on the 30th of July.

On Monday an Owen Sound female reported being assaulted by her common-law partner back on the 14th of July. Further investigation revealed she had been assaulted and threatened on numerous occasions since March. Her 48-year-old partner was arrested and charged with Assault and Uttering Threats; and was kept in custody. He will re-appear in Court on the 22nd of July.
